چکیده

A dielectric, slab-symmetric structure for generating and accelerating low-energy electrons has been under study for the past two years. The resonant device is driven by a side-coupled laser and is configured to maintain field profiles necessary for synchronous acceleration and focusing of nonrelativistic particles. Intended applications of the structure include the production of radiation for medical treatments, imaging, and industrial uses. Results from 3D simulation of the structure geometry and its resonant properties are presented here. SIMULATION OF AND PROGRESS TOWARDS A MICRON-SCALE LASER-POWERED DIELECTRIC ELECTRON SOURCE* G. Progress Report on Development of a 5-micron Drive Laser for Dielectric Laser Acceleration*

A simple and robust ultrafast, high-peak-power 5-μm laser source for pumping a dielectric photonic structure for high-gradient electron acceleration has been designed and is being constructed. The 5-μm laser source consists of two components: (1) a type-II-BBO-based 2.05-μm optical parametric amplifier (OPA) as a pump source, and (2) a type-I-ZGP-based 5-μm OPA to produce mJ-class, <100 fs puls...

Progress in Atom Chips and the Integration of Optical Microcavities

We review recent progress at the Centre for Cold Matter in developing atom chips. An important advantage of miniaturizing atom traps on a chip is the possibility of obtaining very tight trapping structures with the capability of manipulating atoms on the micron length scale. We recall some of the pros and cons of bringing atoms close to the chip surface, as is required in order to make small st...

Effect of nano and micron WO3 on microstructure and electrical properties of lead free potassium sodium niobate piezoceramics

Lead free potassium sodium niobate (KNN) piezoceramics were synthesized via conventional solid state sintering route. Nano and micron WO3 were separately added to KNN through ball-milling. Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of samples sintered in the temperature range of 1110°-1145°C were measured by precision LCR-meter and APC d33-meter devices. The results revealed that micron WO3 partic...

Progress of the Laser Electron Accelerator Project at Stanford

Our objective is to demonstrate, via a proof-of-principle experiment, particle acceleration by crossed laser beams in a single dielectric accelerator cell in vacuum. We expect to observe a laser-induced energy modulation of 15 keV on an electron beam with an initial energy of 32 MeV.

Ultrafast Microscopy: Imaging Light with Photoelectrons on the Nano-Femto Scale.

Experimental methods for ultrafast microscopy are advancing rapidly. Promising methods combine ultrafast laser excitation with electron-based imaging or rely on super-resolution optical techniques to enable probing of matter on the nano-femto scale. Among several actively developed methods, ultrafast time-resolved photoemission electron microscopy provides several advantages, among which the fo...
